Wallington Hall Gardens – A Day Out

Wallington Hall and its beautiful gardens are a firm favourite with Peakles and I.  We love to explore the areas surrounding this wonderful National Trust site based in the North East of England.  As the weather has been very wet and cold in the UK it has often felt like we have not been able to get out and about as much as usual.  This all changed recently when there were blue skies and sunshine!  Peakles, Daddy and I grabbed our warm coats and headed out in the car!  Once we arrived at Wallington Hall we were greeted by a host of snowdrops and other early spring flowers!

It was lovely to see how much Peakles has grown since the last time we were here.  Now she is able to practise her balancing on the cobble stones without having to hold someones hand.

She loved walking along the cobblestones.  This simple activity showed me that her gross motor skills are developing nicely and I decided to join her in balancing on them too!  Peakles giggled as I soon slipped off the stones and she was very pleased when she reached the end of the cobblestones without falling off.

To get to the walled Gardens at Wallington Hall you have to cross a busy country road.  Although we are aware that Peakles is far too young to cross a road on her own, we took this opportunity to make sure she was ‘looking and listening’ for any cars as she crossed.

As we walked along past the large pond towards the gardens Peakles spied a very regal looking building.  She asked if the Queen lived there and I said that I did not know if anyone lived there.  Peakles said that she saw smoke coming from the chimney so someone must live there!

I wonder who lives there Mummy - is it the Queen!

I must admit part of the charm of many National Trust sites is the fact that many of the buildings are tenanted or are holiday lets, so quite often you will see someone carrying on their daily business as a flock of us walk by!

Finally after a quick look around the gardens it was time to leave as the weather was getting much colder.  I think there is no better way to finish a wonderful walk than being carried on the someone’s shoulders!

We will be back later in the year to have a good look around the main house.  Hopefully it will be a little warmer by then!
